This is The Gentle Rise
a transition from trauma into restoration,
from captivity into clarity,
from surviving into being God-raised.

The table is still here.
The soil is still holy.
And Jesus is still the one holding it all together.

The Importance of Licensed Therapy for Mental Health

Mental health is as vital as physical health – licensed therapy has been a lifeline for me, and I believe no one should face these struggles alone.

In this blog, I am dedicated to shining a light on mental health by being transparent about my own lifelong struggles. The reason I am able to do this is because of the licensed therapy I have received and continue to receive.

If you are struggling with your mental health, I urge you it is imperative you seek licensed therapeutic care. I know in our faith community we easily go to the pulmonologist, the cardiologist, our GI doctor, OBGYN and get our annual mammograms without shame. Mental health is treated in many cases like we all of a sudden became Christian Scientists with our brains.

We are encouraged to keep our struggles no matter how severe in-house in a controlled environment with the “all sufficient Word” ministered to us by “trusted, benevolent shepherds” and “Titus II” women. And, though Scripture breathes Life into me, it also triggers me severely given my spiritual abuse and adult religious trauma. I spent years confining my recovery inside this model and I spent equal years in active suicidal ideation.

Trauma requires triage. Complex PTSD will not be “cured” on the Word alone. Skilled licensed counseling is essential. I am a trained biblical counselor and am a certified Mental Health Coach. Though I have a heart for caring and coaching women and youth in crisis, I serve one and only one part of the triage apparatus to holistically support mental, emotional, spiritual health alongside licensed therapists. I consider the former model to be dangerous even malpractice for the personal damage it caused.

Please if you are struggling with depression, anxiety, clinical burnout, co-dependency, trauma flooding, dissociation, suicidal ideations, or any other debilitating mental health symptoms pray to Jesus AND seek licensed professional help. There is Hope and Life out of suffering. Flames can burn bright again from the dimmest flicker regardless the real and present burnout or worse one currently feels, experiences.

If you or someone you love needs immediate help, please call or text the 24/7 suicide and crisis lifeline at 988. You are not alone.
